Pelham Bits
Pelhams offer the combined action of both a curb bit and a snafle. However, they have a more severe leverage action than a snaffle because they act on the jaw as well as the bars of the mouth. The snaffle rein when attached to the pelham, assists in 'lifting' the horse, whilst the curb rein encourages flexion. The longer the cheek bars of the bit, the more severe the action.
